Default How to take video screenshots?

What would be the best way to go about taking video screenshots? If there is more than one option, please let me know.

I already know i could get a dv capture device and use my s-video conterter to loop my computer's video output out of the svideo and into the dv capture device, but those are expensive. Is there a cheap/free way to do it?

I believe that Windows Movie maker lets you take screen shots as long as the format is supported.

I believe VLC media player also has a screenshot option in the video tab.

There is no need for you to buy a software for taking screens shots from your favourit videos!

If you are using WM Player, just lower the value of Hardware Acceleration, and then Press the PrintScreen button.

You can save your pocket money for other stuff, then!

So you want to record screen shots from the game you are playing, but not video.

You may try snagIt then.

The one I am using is snagIt v7.0.

I have used it for recording my favourite games like NFS, DOA, KOF...

FRAPS does it, but it is recorded in a huge format. And to take more then 30 secs. of video you have to pay like 30 bucks. So maybe not the best option.

Fraps only works in-game, for DirectX and OpenGL afaik.
