Default how can i capture a picture from a DVD?

I play my DVD's using Sony's powerDVD program on my Vaio. Is there a free program out there that will allow me to capture a picture from the dvd as it's playing? At work we have Intervideo DVD that allows me to do that, but i'd like to be able to do it at home. what free programs will allow me to do this?

The General

VLC - www.videolan.com

Play the DVD with it, and go to Video > Snapshot. PowerDVD blows anyway, VLC is so much better.

I have powerDVD 4.0 for Sony Vaio. If i go to the help section it states that my copy is not the full retail version, it's a special consumer version for Sony, thus i do not have many of the features, such as capture image. IS VLC the best free program to use?
