I was going to tell you thatb but somehow I forgot to post . hum can come from a lot of things (I don't what dirty hydro is), but the most likely culprit is different grounds (not being plugged in the same outlet). plugging them them in the same outlet or breaking the grounding tab on the plug (not a good idea) or using a ground loop isolator would have fixed your problem

Dirty Electricity is when you have many many computers in your house, the "negative" or left over electricity it is putting out is filled with noise. This is why future shop and best buy sell 150 dollar (or more, not really sure) hydro filters to eliminate the hum. I made a mistake, it is actually called dirty electricity. Google it and there some really good sites about it. It is when your electricity is ran through energy efficient lighting and microchips.

oh, I thought that you had meant something like dirty potentiometers

no, but that too could cause noise if it is an older system and the volume control is analog and the sound is all ran through the pot. In digital systems the potentiometer changes a value (voltage) on a microprocessor.
