Default Grado SR80 Headphones

I have heard these are good for the price, and I was wondering if anyone has anything to say about them. I am looking for nice pair of headphones for around $100 max.

Thanks for the feedback

They are very good for rock and metal. These are also very good (the MS-1):

EDIT:
In fact I would suggest the MS-1 over the SR-80. Look here:

Okay, thanks for the info. I only wish there was somewhere where I could test these out before purchasing... Where do you recommend I buy them from, anyway?

A person with a pair of Sennheiser HD 600's wanders in, notices the discussion is about Grados, and quietly sneaks away.

Just kidding. Those are some highly regarded cans, but I do recommend you give them a listen first. When I gave some good models a test drive, I fell in love with my HD 600's, and realized that the grado sound is not for me.

Thanks for the tip, I will check out the Sennheisers for sure. I also want to look more into the MS-1's, as 003 recommended. Where do suggest I go to test these out? I am doubtful a place like Circuit City or Best Buy would carry them

I have no idea where in your area you can check them out. Here in the Vancouver, Canada, area there is a place. I figure that there must be someplace in the Portland area.

Try posting in the headphone area of head-fi http://www.head-fi.org/ . There is ton of good people there who may be able to help.

Bear in mind, the ones that I mentioned may be a bit out of your budget, you can try some HD 580's though and perhaps pick them up online for a good deal.

I may have found just the place (http://www.fredsoundofmusic.com/brand_list.html)

They carry Grado and Sennheiser, but unfortunately no Alessandros

Good. Let me know if you manage to get in there and try some stuff out. It looks like they have a good selection.

For sure. I'll try to get there by the end of the week, but it's not exactly close to my house. Don't know when I'll purchase, though. Hopefully soon, these earbuds just aren't cutting it

Well after a few weeks I finally got there. I tested them all out and decided to go with the Grado SR60s. I tried the 60s up through the 125s and found that the difference in audio quality was not great enough for me to lay down some extra cash for the 80s. After the Grados, I tried some comparable $100 Sennheisers and liked even my $65 SR60s MUCH better. The SR60s are also supposed to be easier to drive than any of the others, making them better for portable audio players.

Sorry for bumping this thread
