Default DVD player won't read burnt DVD's

I'm using Nero version 6 to burn my DVD's. I download them off limewire. I have tried using DVD-R and DVD+R on two different DVD players in my house. It always says "no disc." What am i doing wrong? am I supposed to convert the files before burning them? I know I need to convert MP3's to a WAVE format before burning music, so would the same apply to burning DVD's

Has it ever worked? if not, it might be because you have not finished the disk. I have a friend who had that same problem. Another reason could be that since it is an illigal copy, the copyright on the disk of the person who put it on might be stopping it from working. That would simply be the the movie doing its job.

It probably only works on your comp because it is already saved on there. Try going to google video or something and find something that has a download button on it and try to put it on the dvd. Also, check and make sure you have finshed the burn. It would be in the software, not the burner.

yes and yes.

regular dvd players will not play a movie unless it's in mpeg2 format (DVD format).

I believe NERO can actually convert the movie to mpeg2.

Just to quickly check that the momvie is in the right format do the following:

First of all make sure that you are using at least 3 or 4 GB of the space on the disc (this for a movie of regualr length). Then on your computer, look at the contents on your DVD if you don't have two folders (audio_ts and video_ts) then you probably won't be able to play the movie on your dvd player.

I dowmloaded a bunch of trial version MPEG 2 coverters from download.com and they will only convert 50% of the movie. Is there any place that will give a full convert? I don't want to waste more DVD's on only half a maovie just to see if it will work.

There is a bunch of free ones out there. The one that I've used is Avi2Dvd so far I've never had a problem. It's relatively fast and creates an DVD-image ready to be burnt.
