And that is why it was not shut down.

Making a backup is legal. Some DVDs have copy protection, preventing you from making said backup. There are still ways to make that backup you are entitled to, and this discussion has been focused on that.

Exactly why i did not stop this topic when i first replied. It was asked on how to make a disc to disc copy which is how a backup is normally done in my view. That is why i suggested the application in question and gave the answer needed.

But why would a link be bad?

Region Free is not the same as Copy Protection. Region Free means that you can play it on any DVD player across the world. Each Region of the world uses a different region. USA and North America is Region 1. I believe the UK is Region 2. So that is what Region Free is all about.

Including Copy Protection on DVD Shrink would make the application illegal to use. Since it is legal to make a backup but not legal to make more than 1 backup or to use it for anything other than a backup.

Plus DVD Shrink has not been updated itself. The creator of DVD Shrink has since sold out, so to speak, and is now doing his work for Nero with Recode. DVD Shrink itself has not been updated in years. So having copy protection bypass on DVD Shrink would not work with any of today's DVD's.

This is why AnyDVD is such a good tool. It is constantly updated.

Get this crap. I have an htpc because my stand alone dvd player died. There are movies THAT I OWN that i cant even watch without using software to strip the copy protection. This is why i get so hacked off about all this stupid copy protection crap that companies keep coming out with. I actually had to buy a program for the sole purpose of stripping off copy protection to watch a movie I purchased. And they wonder why sales are in the crapper. AnyDVD is the bomb.

dvd shrink and dvd decrypter can't defeat the new encryptions. but if you add rip it 4 me it will use both of them and it's free. or use DVDFab HD Decrypter. dvd rebuilder can shrink files too. make a backup of your own dvd is legal. it was rule so in canada and the us has avoided the issue. sharing is another issue. it's illegal

RipIt4Me Screenshot RipIt4Me is a freeware utility that helps you backup your copy protected DVDs.

Recently released DVDs are now very often equipped with stronger copy protections - such as ARccOS™ and RipGuard DVD. Programs like DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter cannot handle these types of discs.

With the help of RipIt4Me, ripping these DVDs will be a very easy task. The program is fully automated and the wizard will guide you through all the necessary steps involved. If you prefer, there is also a true "1-Click" mode that will perform all the involved steps automatically for you.

Please refer to the official RipIt4Me Guide and FAQ for more information on how to use this program.

changelog

Version 1.7.1.0. BETA 2 (20 March 2007)

* Attempted to fix the problem with DVD Decrypter running out of resources... Let us know if the new code helps!
* Attempted to fix a crash that could occur when a VTS had too many VOBUs. This was possibly responsible for the crash on "Vientos de Agua". Please, try and report. Thanks!
* Fixed a PUO problem in the analysis code that could cause some PGCs to not be cleaned appropriately.
* In any VTS that's excluded from the rip, the replacement IFO now only contains 1 title and 1 PGC.
* There was a very serious problem in the analysis code related to Sprm[5] (TTN number). Now fixed.
* Added handling of missing titles in VIDEO_TS.IFO as experienced in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Greece).
