dvd burner w/ dvdxcopy

I am having a nightmare making my dvdxcopy work with my Gateway ( nec1300a ) dvd burner ( internal ) can anyone help either with a way to get the @#$%**&^% thing to work or a stand alone burner that will work well with dvdxcopy?
p.s. I have tried verbatim, tdk, sony, maxell all -r

Sorry mate dunno ote about dvdxcopy.......everyone I know uses the free and excellent DVDShrink.............go figure.
