Default computer display routed to TV, can see screen but not videos... please read

i have the display on my computer hooked up to my TV in another room. i routed an s-video cable from my Radeon 9000 vid card to the back of my tv (had to use a s-vid to rca adaptor to plug into my tv).

you can see the computer screen on the tv, everything works, except when i try to play a video. doesnt matter what filetype, or program i use to play it, it just shows a blank screen. and by blank screen i mean that you can still see the computer's desktop, but the "box", where you would normally view the video(if it's not in fullscreen mode) is black.

i have gotten this to work in the past but cannot remember how.

i am running xp with sp 2. again, i have a radeon 9000 vid card.

what do i need to do here?

yes, you can see the video on the computer screen, but for some reason it does not show up on the tv screen

you have 3 options.

1. set your tv as the primary monitor
2. get windows media center
3. get windows media player classic

drag the window all the way to the right and it should show up on the TV. It is basically functioning like a projector.

If you move your mouse all the way to the right, it should go to the TV as well. It is basically just extending your desktop.

I think that he has it set up for the clone setup, not the extended one (they usually have 3 setups. dual view, extend and clone). you can drag it over in extend mode though

most media players will only show the image on one display(supposedly to stop people from copying it). you can change the primary monitor to tv in display properties, but media player classic (certain versions won't show the display both moniters at the same time though) and the media center edition player will show the video on both displays

i am using winamp by the way, and thats my preferred program for playing audio and video. i DID get videos to play on both my computer and a tv using winamp in the past so i know it can be done.

i just switched my primary screen to tv, and video played on the tv but not on my computer screen. so, i switched them both to primary and and the video did play on both screens, but the size of the screen on my computer (not the video size, but the actual size of the screen on the monitors display) was distorted. it was about an inch shorter on the top and bottom of my screen. i think this was how i got it to work before where videos were displayed on both screens, and i think i figured out a way to adjust the screen back to fit the size of my monitor, but i can't remember how i did that either
