Default Changed OS and now sound doesnt work...

So I built a computer a while back and was using a downloaded version of vista which was causing me alot of problems so i downloaded yet another version which was a 32 bit modded version. After installing this version my sound quit working. So by this point I was tired of messing with it so i went to the store and bought a legitimate copy of Vista. It is Vista home premium 64bit. I installed this as well as a second video card and 2gb of ram as well. After all of this the sound still does not work. I know the speakers are ok because I plugged them into my laptop and they worked fine. I have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them several times but still not getting any sound. The specs on the computer are as follows

evga nforce 780i sli - motherboard
nvidia geforce 9800 gtx (x2 bridged together) - video card
intel core2 quad 2.66ghz - processor
6gb ram
500gb hard drive

If anyone has any ideas on how to get this problem fixed I would appreciate it a whole lot. This is drivin me crazy!

64bit OS's aren't fully supporting sound cards. Some work, some half work, some dont work.

You need to download latest drivers and make sure that they are 64bit compatible. You should also consider getting a soundcard... the chance of evga updating sound drivers to 64bit isn't likely.

I think I am going to just go buy a sound card like you suggested. I have downloaded all the 64bit drivers for this thing and I am still getting nothing. The funny thing is though. That the version I had on here before was a 32 bit version and it wasnt working then either... It quit working when I installed that version though as well. Could that have caused the sound to stop working?

You don't have the drivers then... Evga does have 64bit ESPECIALLY for their brand new boards. What/where did you get them from...
Also, you sure you're plugged in right?? Arn't they 7.1?

As you didn't have sound before you put x64 on, its not an OS issue.

I did originally have sound. I was running a downloaded 64 bit version of vista that was giving me problems. I then installed the 32 bit and thats when the sound quit working. I thought it was the OS so i just decided to go buy one and quit messing around with downloaded OS's from the net. I still have no sound though... Everything is hooked up just like it was when the sound worked...

I had a evga board for my media sever before I just upgraded. I remember going through heck to get the sound to work. I had the drivers, but vista would only allow one to work at a time. it has 3 driver. analog, digital (the optical and coaxial port counted as one) and hdmi. by default the sound was going to the hdmi output. of course in xp all 3 can work together

go to your sound option and change it
