Default blu-ray buying decision

Hello everyone,

Let me start off by saying that this may or may not qualify to be posted here; however, it has some sound implications.

I recently became interested in blu-ray considering that I have an HD TV that I feel I am not taking full advantage of. Keep in mind, my tv displays up to 1080i/720p, not 1080p. I really don't care about it being 720p since it is only a 32 inch anyway. I am a bit of a sound buff, and when I make speaker purchases in the future, I'd like the best route for optimization for both sound and video quality.

I have been eying the Playstation 3 lately; however, other than MGS4 and the Final Fantasy series, I probably wouldn't game much with it. I have an Xbox 360 that I am happy with.

The whole point of this post is - What would be the best bang for my buck in terms of purchase value? I want a blu-ray player that will help optimize my sound and video performance, and is the best for its features. My price range is $400. Should I just go with the PS3 or do I have better options out there?

Thank you for your time.

you can get a good blu-ray player for anywhere from 250-400ish. It will upconvert all your dvd's so it's good in that sense. also it can serve as a hub for all your audio stuff unless you get stand alone speakers and have to route them through speaker wire. I would say get a blu-ray player unless you want to spend the extra 100 bucks on the ps3 for gaming/online all that stuff. if you just want a nice setup and won't game much, save a couple hundred, buy a blu-ray player and use the extra cash for a nicer sound setup.

Sounds pretty enticing thus far; however, any suggestions on a decent sound setup? I am still considering the PS3; however, only for the FF series, heh.

Well if you're a sound buff, saving a hundred bucks buying a BR player vs a PS3 wouldn't be much compared to what you would be spending on a nice amp/speaker set up. a PS3 is really versatile too, so you wouldn't be limiting yourself to just a player. (and MGS4 is awesome!) But that's just my opinion..
