Default Best way to convert MKV to AVI?

ADobe Premiere CS3 doesn't support MKV. So now I am trying to find something else. VDub wouldn't open the file either.

I found this link but never heard of it: Convert MKV to AVI - MKV to AVI Converter Free Download

Is this ok? Any suggestions? Looking for a free converter.

Thank you

Have you tried handbrake? I'm pretty sure it will do MKV to AVI. It's an open source program works on macs, PC's, and linux. It's the best free video converter I have used.

Try SUPER. It's an amazing GUI to commonly used encoders and it's free:

Question Re: Best way to convert MKV to AVI?

Hi folks,

Converting from MKV to AVI ... you lose Quality ... right!?!?

Is there a way to make MKV to AVI conversion that Maintains the Original MKV Quality?
If the Size is not an issue ... & Container change is only so to be able to view the file on home dvd-palyer!

Thanks,

G!

MKV2PS3 is a(nother) MKV remuxer, originally designed for PS3 users, which changes the container from MKV to AVI without transcoding, thus keeping the same quality as the original file. There is plenty of similar software. On the other hand, remuxing takes minutes as opposed to hours (or even days) to fully transcode.
