Default Best Hardware and Software for TV Recording/Video Editing

I want to be able to connect my TV cable signal to my computer and to be able to use the computer as a DVR. I also want to be able to make movies combining home video with TV video. I am building a new computer now. What do I need to be able to do this well?

A device called a Video Capture Card is what you are looking for. There are many different brands and makes. Features you are looking for are things like TV tuner, composite inputs/ S-video inputs, record live tv software.
Newegg has a huge selection with reviews and ratings to help you make a good choice.

the best product you hav never heard of and they are expensive. osprey, opticast, quartet, and canopus come to mind. they cost $500.00 to 6 grand. this is for professional editing. I use to have some of those cards.

they rest of the world will use a haupage or ati capture cards. try to get a pci express one if you can
