| Backing Up Music Hello,
I realize this might seem like a completely stupid question to some, but I honestly don't know, and I was unable to find out on google. I was wondering that if I burn my iTunes library to a data disc DVD, will it cause my audio to be reduced in sound quality when I rip the DVD to another computer? Basically, I was wondering if this is a lossless method of backing up your music, as long as you do it in a data format. |

| Re: Backing Up Music Depends on what program you use....I think nero will do it..but as always there will be some quality loss with the transfer to disc!! |

| Re: Backing Up Music Not really. Digital information doesn't lose quality. The only time you lose quality is if you compress the information. For instance, going from CD Audio to mp3 you lose quality because certain information is stripped from the original file. Copying the information to a disc/hard drive won't affect your quality at all.

Will it still cause the music files to lose quality? |

| Re: Backing Up Music Maybe not to the disc but when you pull it back off the disc there will be a small loss... |

| Re: Backing Up Music Hmm...well one person is saying no loss, and another is saying a small one. Anyone else? I really need to know if this is a lossless method of backing up music. It seems to me that if other data files don't lose information by doing this and ripping back to a computer, then music will not lose quality when ripping it back. |

| Re: Backing Up Music I would guess that there would be no loss in quality, but I'm not 100% sure on that. |

| Re: Backing Up Music Again...If all you are doing is copying the music from one location to another it would be the same as copying a Word doc or a PDF file. You don't lose anything in that process. Now, if you are compressing the data at all (ripping it from CD, converting it to different formats, etc) then you risk losing some of the quality.
