i hope someone can help as this is starting to annoy me...

i recently got a hd camcorder which films in avi. format.
all my software for editing suites on my pc (ulead moviemaker6, windows movie maker, ect) doesnt work with this format so i need to convert all my files in mpeg. or similar.

all the free converters that i try to download fail, either...

- they convert the file format, but lose the hd quality
- they convert file, keep hd quality but watermark all the video clips with their logo
- they dont covert at all.

i really need a free, downloadable program which will change the format of the files, keep the same hd aspect ratio, and not leave any impression or watermark in the converted clips.

is this asking the impossible?
can anyuone supply a link to a good programme which will do the above?

You might want to take notes on the ones you have tried out and post the list here so something else can be pointed to. Otherwise no one else will know which converters to recommend since there are tons of freewares to look over.

Once you have a list posted here for those that won't work someone may know of one that will simply by cross checking them. Even at that you may still have to buy a full version of some program to get past the problems seen with many freewares.

I've used Super, Total Video Converter, Cucusoft, and various other converters to convert my avi's and to be perfectly honest with you, the built in converter in JetAudio is superior. The output looks so much clearer, although the speed is pretty much the same as most. I just converted Transporter 3 this morning and it took about 45 minutes and OMG it's beautiful!
