Default Audio Feedback/Speakers

I have a JBL speaker system with subwoofer attached to my computer. Yesterday I suddenly started getting that hum feedback through one of my speakers. If I turn the volume up high that is all you hear and not the song ... I have to keep it real low in order to hear a song I am playing. Is the speaker shot or what? Thanks in advance for help ...

Is it a hum(low bass - like noise) or is it interferance (higher "white" noise)....if it's a hum, then try moving your speakers further away from the computer as well as other stereo or tv equipment......if it truly came "suddenly...through one" speaker, then it could be either a damaged speaker cord (more like white noise) or you might have turned the volume up so high that the speaker was blown (though this isn't likely with a separate sub-woofer)....I'd suggest plugging a different set of speakers in and listen, if it sounds good then return your JBL's and just tell them one was defective

Thanks for the reply Music .... I checked it again and it is like when you have audio feedback on a speaker/mike in an auditorium when you get something else electronic close to it ... that piercing sound. I have had these speakers for about five years now and have never had this problem ... it just started yesterday that is the reason I am believing that the speakers are bad now. It is in both speakers ... I listened to them both. I guess the thing to do is to plug in another set but I don't have another set ... I also put them back about five feet from my computer and the noise was still there. Thanks for helping ...

you can take the speakers outof the room and test them on a portable discman or portable cd player that will tell you if it is something with the speakers or possibly the soundcard
