Default ABIT on board audio... not playing in stereo.

what gives? i've messed with the audio settings i know but i cannot get my computer to play in stereo. if i go into the "sound effect manager" and mess with the self tests and stuff, i've occassionally gotten stereo for a short while, but mostly mono. i've got no separate sound card, it's on board on the ABIT, and the application that opens when i select "sound effect manager" is "Realtek AC '97"

any ideas?

Have you tried a pair of working headphones directly into the line-out jack?

no. but i have tried multiple sets of speakers with the same result. are you just trying to rule out busted speakers? or do you have something else mind?

Just trying to rule out faulty speakers.

When you changed speakers did you change the patch cord as well?

Also, try the front audio jack if your case has it. It could be a dirty jack in the rear which is easily fixed with some high-grit sandpaper.

front audio jack works in stereo...thanks! at least that's some progress. so you think it's a dirty jack in the rear?
