It declares k, iNumNames, j, m, and 1 as integers. (The % attached to any variable declaration is a shortcut for "as Integer").

ah so % means as integer!!
thanks emily.
am taking a holiday break, will tackle VB in the new year. hopefully i will not forget all that i have learned, not that i have learnt much
