you can download it for free through your MSDN allience. if you dont know what thay is or you are not a member then you will have to pay for it.

I believe you can download the compilers that come with visual studio.net 2003 for free.

If you are after free stuff you could always take the linux route! MySQL is free as are pretty much all development tools.

SQL 2005 is on a whole other level from mySQL, unfortunately. mySQL barely supports half of what SQL can really do... although I wish it did.

I got both from Microsoft for free on DVD. Signed up for them on their site... I'm not a 'member' of anything special.
