I use Java (I started with Basic, but I don't recommend it)

I've heard that it's easier to go on to other languages if you've learned Basic

Lisp would be a great choice, if you know Lisp well you will pick up other languages much faster.

No one can tell you what to start out with as it's all just opinions. I've started with VB then I took Java and C++ but the order you take these doesn't matter. I found VB to be the easiest though.

I found VB to be really strange and weird~! its nothing like PERL!

It also depends on what kind of programs you want to make. If you want to make web applications then start with HTML and then decide where you want to go next.

yea... and I dunno about C and Java and stuff lol~!

Start with C, the go to C++. Once you mastered the theory behind C++ pick up Java (same theory just slighty different syntax). I would also pick up some scripting languages after that (Perl/PHP are used alot). I would then learn a functional language or two (ML or Lisp). Once you have all those under you belt you should be set !
