Default Programing a game

Ok first of all to tell the truth this is my school assignment so if you don't want to help me i'm fine with that but if you can thanks very much =D

Well our school IT class is having an assignment that is to create a game via game maker free mode. And yes we did make pong, working on pac man, and later making space invaders. Now i would like to ask
-is there a way to make a game from scratch as in typing in codes and stuff
-Is it possible for my level to make a LAN or online game (like "Space invaders online" or something)

Thanks for your help =D

1. Yes the most common language is C++ to code a game from scratch. For online browser games it's Flash language that dominates.

2. Yes you can make a game have network capabilities.

Yes an most of the hard work has been done, if you want a isometric lay out look at the FIFE sticky in this area, I know the lead developer very well an it is ideal for your goals.

There is a few open source an free 3d engens out there Id software also open up there enviroments after a few years so all you have to do is write some code an a few other things an your away.
