I'm not sure if this is legal, or if the question even makes any sense, but what I'm looking for is an app that can let you view files stored in a dat file. Any help would be appreciated, and ridicule is welcome seeing as how I'm probably making a fool out of my self by asking.

I tried that a long time ago, you get a total mess. I'm pretty confident that the dat is a whole bunch of txt files, but I haven't been able to find any progs that can open it and have it appear coherent.

don't worry about it. I have a feeling that its something that you have to unpack on a file by file basis. I was just hoping that there was some sort of program, or tutorial even that would help me open some dat files so I can look at source for some old games.

i have no idea whether this will work or not but u might be successful trying to un-RAR the with like win-RAR or something. Works for heaps of other files.
