this does not work...
echo ' <meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="0; url=javascript:window.open("'.$insertGoTo.'","_par ent")";>';

this DOES work

What browser and version are you using, Larry ? Sometimes when I try a script in a different browser it works just fine.

true.. but i need this to work in all ?? at least recent browsers of IE, FF (and the others?)

i have an iframe on a page (as it makes an already working/complicated page) VERY easy to add to the page... however, i have 1 option where i need to redirect AND DO NOT want to create a loop... so i need the redirect to NOT open in the iframe, but the parent.

anyway to make that make would be a good solution.--- any way that i can still use the iframe.

man.... the multiple broswers just creates SOOOOOO much wasted time and energy, etc for developers, etc ... i understand people like options and freedom of broswers, BUT people then complain because stuff doesn't work and -- the amount of money, hours spent on making things work in multiple browsers --- ekkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!

yeah -- went off topic and ranted ---
been dealing with this issue more and more lately

I think it's almost impossible (almost) to make a page render equally well, as there still are differences between versions and browsers, though the gap has closed some. Maybe you could just get it to work for the top 3 or four browsers.

I think some developers perform browser detection and output the appropiate code. this skill makes you a better and more valuable web developer.

PHP - Browser Detection In PHP | DreamInCode.net

the link above suggests using the server variable http_user_agent

That makes sense, Officepolitics. I know there are tools such as Firebug for Firefox that will help with developing JavaScript, maybe it can do PHP as well ? Not sure, but its worth looking at I would think. I might go check it out to see, now I'm curious.
