| Re: Noob Help Just to do a "hello world" sample in Java, you need to know like classes! I'd start with C... Or something like Turing or QBasic..
The languages I learnt are in this order:
QBasic, C, C++, Turing (for school), Java, assembly, C# ( that's when it came out)

| Re: Noob Help Java is not too bad. It sucked at first because our text book assumed you were familiar with the basics... but only one or two were. Object-oriented programming is way different from the BASIC programs I used to write.
If you are interested in JAVA, I can upload a couple of JAVA books I downloaded sometime (like to RapidShare). |

| Re: Noob Help Python or C/C++ would be my suggestions. Python is really simple, and C/C++ are similar (at least syntactically) to many other languages, like Java.
I would imagine that Java would be difficult to learn as a first language, because it is so object-oriented. C++ programs can be written without a single class or even struct, and when you are ready, you can learn about OOP with a familiar syntax.
The order I learned was QBasic (some), HTML (helps you understand how the computer interprets things), C, C++, Java, Python, sh/bash/tcsh/etc., awk, sed, perl.
There is a nice C++ tutorial here: C++ Language Tutorial |
