Default mono

Has anyone heard of/used Mono?

http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page

Is it a viable alternative to .NET? I had no idea MS had standardized their framework.

discuss!!

It's pretty good from my experience. C# apps I've written tend to work anyway. I don't think that it's an official MS thing though, Mono is just a 3rd party project.

I'd still rather develop .NET in Windows though, simply because Visual Studio is such a good IDE.

Ya, from what I was reading, you should be able to almost directly port your code over. The site says it's an almost exact rep of .NET...with a few extras (gtk, Linux, etc)

The way it was saying was that you could type your code in VS and compile it to target mono and boom....cross platform.
