I want to start programming. I need something free, easy to learn, and powerful. What can I use?

Hopefully that will help. As most people know, I'm an avid C# fan, as well as Java....I'd choose one of those.

Well actually, I know a little bit of Python. But I mean only a LITTLE bit!

if you want to make apps and games for Windows, Java should not be a problem.
in fact, it might can run on Linux too. :amazed:

but then , you can try C++ for game programming.
besides, you also can try Visual Studio .net or Visual Basic for writing Windows applications.

I tried learning c++, but it's too complicated for me, because I've never programmed before. I think I'll stick to Python until I get better at programming. I'm getting better at Python, though. But the best program I can make is a simple guessing game with only a few lines of code. Any tips?

PS: Visual Basic costs money, right? Like I said in the beginning of this thread, I don't have any money to spend on programming tools.

Python is not good for making games...

C# can use DirectX (The stuff they make commercial games out of!) that should be enough reason to use it period. But it can make windows apps, web apps, and anything else you can dream up.

End of topic

But how long does it take to learn C#? Should I continue learning Python for a while though? Also, there are some (good) commercial games made with Python... Well if C# isn't too complicated, I might learn that.

I want to try C#, but don't you have to pay for Microsoft Visual C#? I think I want to get better at Python first... Why isn't Python good for making games?
