I am totally new to phpBB and I have no idea how to set it up!! HELP ME!!! Do I need a free host to run it?

You need a host that supports php. Most free hosts (if any) don't support it.
www.dk3.com has a premade version. All you have to do is register and then activate the discussion forums service. It's all done for you!

As long as the host meets the PHP and MySQL revision requirements, the board software should run fine, though it cannot be guaranteed in the case of free hosts (most skimp down on using "lighter" versions of the PHP software which can lack some functions of what the board needs.

http://www.phpbbhost.org has a hosted BB service as well.

You might want to upload it first, after you have checked Martin's requirements. Then your done, I think...just go to the homepage of the phpbb thing you just uploaded.
