There actually is a book called HTML For Dummies. It's good, I learned HTML from it. Other than that, looking at the source code of pages that you like (View > Source) is very helpful.

Well HTML for dummies is a good book i used it once, but the only real way to learn HTML, is trial and error. theres nothing that can go wrong. That's how i orignally learnt

This might be a little advanced, but a GREAT way to learn new things via html is to go to websites and web pages you like and do a "save" file (make sure you do a save as complete).

Then look at the html file and you can see how the page was created. This is VERY, VERY helpful IF you have a good html editor, one that allows you to see the "structure" of the page.

Macromedia Dreamweaver is bar none, the best tool out there.
It does cost money, however, an educational version is pretty cheap. OR buy an old version off ebay.

Good Luck

You'll need to know more than the bare minimum... but i think it will do. Just don't be put off with all the tags you don't know and try and go to simple sites. So that they are build on Html. Not java or php

Well.... there many more advantages... and it is true that Java will almost 'takeover' HTML.... because HTML is almost dead.... it is seldom used... but still a great starting place.
