Help with programming project.

I have decided to challenge my programming skills; I have a project in mind to create a console emulator. Does anyone have any tips on where I should start? What language to use? Etc. Thanks.

Well, you say to challenge your programming skills, yes?
What skills are they? as in what coding language?
If you are new(ish) to coding, go for Visual basic.
If you are slightly more advanced, use C++.
If you need help making a Console emulator in VB, I can send you my Source, and you could learn from that?

I know much more about C++ than VB, however I would like to learn from what you have.

Would you mind releasing it anyway under the GPL? some people would find that incredibly useful.
