I need to know of some books to buy or tutorials to look at to learn how to program software to control various pieces of hardware. If that's too vague, just say so and I'll rephrase. Thanks.

you mean PCL? those are really expensive.. prob you won't be able to test it out at home.. but, you can try searching for PCL books on amazon
