Theres alot involved in writing an game, whether its highly graphical or just a small thing. Just to let ya know, alotta people won't care much for a game, if they know its new, and just written by a friend.
If you really want to go fourth with this, it would be wise to have a plan.
Graphics, theres a great program called GIMP, and I beleive a new version out for it. It's completly free, because its a Open Source project, and there are builds for windows. Don't be fooled by threads in Google offering to sell it to you, because it's free. Personally I hate the fact that someone is trying to sell it...
Find a corner, a notebook, and a pen/pencil. Make sure the corner is dark and lonely, heck lock yourself in a closet away from any kind of socialization. Then you'll start to think of all the names and stuff ya need. If I wasn't paying for my website, I probably wouldn't do anything at all, because I'm extremely lazy (quite a good programmer though.)
Be prepared to work on it for a long time, there is much development in a game such as that, including a calculator.
I follow a personal rule which I presume to be best of all, there is no end to a project. It shall continue for eternity, but it's your effort to make it the best eternity possible, or have none at all. Eternities basically last 60-90 years, if ya know what I mean.
