Hi everyone,

I'm not even sure if I'm posting this in the right place, but I guess it has to do with programming!

I'm looking to do some software for a final project for a Design for Interactive Media degree, and I'm only experienced in Front end design, so I have no clue about the actual technology. I'd like to create soemthing like an IM software. I won't necessarily have to write teh software, but I need to at least research it.

Could anyone help me with where to start looking about how the IM software works, how it is written etc. Any information would be really helpful.

I'm not sure if I've even explained this in the best way!

I haven't checked yet but I think there might be some stuff on www.howstuffworks.com you can also check betanews.com because sometimes they have stuff there.
