Computers are built out of electroninc components known as hardware. These components (screen, keyboards, mouse etc) can be controlled in as many different ways that you can possibly think of by writing in languages that the hardware understands : programing. Lots of different languages out there that work at different levels (lower level languages are where the code you work in is more directly talking to the electronics and high level language - the code you use is more like structured english so more people can understand and work in it)
If you are thinking of learning a language may I suggest Java or C#
