I am only an intermediate C++ programmer. I have had formal education on the language and dink with it when I am bored on aBloodshed compiler. I think I like it best because it is free
Many free IDEs (Bloodshed, Code::Blocks etc) usually come with the necessary tools, i.e. compiler, linker etc. These are usually a subset of the GNU tools used on Linux ported to Windows.
I used Bloodshed all thru college, they have made some nice upgrades to their IDE as wel, plus it comes the the compiler already intergrated so you don't even need to set it up. Simple good for personal projects.
