Default Building a Message Board

I would like to develop a message board for a website of mine. I am considering either coding it myself or having someone else do it for me.

How difficult is it in general to develop a message board? what languages are usually used?

I would like my forum to have a full text layout, no graphics. I really like the forum on the following page.

Can you tell what this forum was coded in? I would greatly appreciate any direction or sources where i could learn more about how to do this.

Thank you in advance.

Not sure what the one you listed is coded in, but most are PHP (like the one you are on now).

http://www.forumer.com/ helps you create one and also hosts it for you. I am not sure if you can host it yourself or not. I have never actually used it myself, but it looks decent.

Default appreciate the direction

Thanks for the response. I really have no idea about how to do this, as I have only recently decided to try it. I will check out the link you left.

Can anyone attest to the maintenance involved in running a message board? How does it compare to other web based utilities?

I am trying to sort out a plan for the most cost effective way (in terms of both my time and money) to start a message board.

Any more suggestions are much appreciated.

I agree, just use phpBB.

I run a message board with about 10-15,000 users.

Its pretty maintenence intensive.
