kmote has a spectacular aura aboutkmote has a spectacular aura about

Default linux GPU and other

To give some background this is what I am running so far:

P4 2.4GHz, running opensuse 11 dedicated folding machine
opteron150 2.4GHz, 2 free PCI-e 16x, running opensuse 11 dedicated folding machine
2*opteron270 2.0GHz, 2 free PCI-e 16x, running opensuse 11 dedicated folding machine
T5750 2.0GHz laptop, running vista
E5200 2.5GHz, 1 used PCI-e 16x (8800GT), running fedora 9 (this is the one in my sig)

I think I have a few of problems with this set up:
1) No official linux GPU client
2) 4 free PCI-e x16 slots
3) I don't think I am running the SMP client on the T5750 even though I think I could be

For me this posses a few questions:
1) Is there a way of getting the GPU client running on linux?
1.1) If so does it involve running it through wine?
1.2) Which is the better folding GPU 8800GTS or HD4650?
2) Can you run the CPU and GPU clients simultaneously? (the answer on the FAQ just said that atm the GPU client uses some CPU but does not explicitly say if this means they cannot be run)
3) How do I make the windows client use both the cores on my T5750 or do I have to use the console client and start up two instances?

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

nobody here has any experience with the client, you need to post on the F@H forums.

OK in that case I would rather just experiment than sign up to another forum just to make a couple of posts. Does anyone know the answers to my questions which are not linux specific such as question 3

The F@H forums are really good, loads of info.

8800GTS is much faster for folding. You can run gpu and cpu clients, but the gpu's need there own core of the cpu if not process gets slowed down (but the 180 drivers fix this i believe) and to make both cores fold, you need to install the smp client.

You probably won't finish smpl ontime with the T5750.

The 180.60 works for droping the cpu load in XP, don't know the load situation in *nix, but it allows me to run mny smp on 3 cores, gaing me 5 minutes a % on a 1920pt'r

Oh, I'd definately read how to do the gpu2 thing, as it is very involved!
