| need help with new opty 165 I just installed my new opteron 165.
I've upgraded from my amd athlon 3400+
I just ran a 3dmark06 test and noticed that my results dropped 200 points.
I've done no overclocking.
I used as5 on the processor then fixed the fan and turned my pc on.
I ran the test and my results went from 3995 to 3774.
I was wondering if thats normal...i thought this processor would increase gaming performance. |

| Re: need help with new opty 165 did you mean device manager?
if not...
what am I suppose to look for in task manager?
I've been checking system requirements lab and my cpu speed is rated way lower than this one.
I hope this is a problem that can be fixed.
My idle temp is between 55-60 which I know is not good.
And I was wondering if their is a good cpu bench mark test.

| Re: need help with new opty 165 Right click on the taskbar (across the bottom of your screen), select Task Manager. Click on the Performance tab. If it is seeing both cores, there will be two sections in the CPU Usage History area. If it is one big box, it is only using one core. |

| Re: need help with new opty 165 in the bios, its still using the 3400+ settings, either you switch it back to using 2 cores or reset the bios. Should be done easily. |

| Re: need help with new opty 165 do you see 3 graphs on performance tab? it should have 2 split graph for cpu which means it is dual core and bottom one is for page file. if you don't see 3 graphs then it means wthat your cpu is running as if it was single core. Try checking boot.ini if you have any options that says /numproc=1 or /onecpu option enabled. if so just delete that part and it should boot up windows and it will see as 2 cores.

| Re: need help with new opty 165 I opened up the boo ini and this is all it said.
[boot loader]
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Home Edition"
/fastdetect
And i checked task manger and they were only 2 graphs total.
One is CPU Usage and the other is PF Usage
This is really getting me mad...not you guys but the fact that I have bad luck.
I seriously dont know what to do next |
