| Master Techie | I'm building a new PC and didn't have enough money for a new case right now, so I'm making do with an old case. I need to mod it a bit, though. First I marked some spots for 80mm fans. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/HPIM0803.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/HPIM0804.jpg Weapon of choice? Rotary tool, of course. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/HPIM0805.jpg I first tried using one of those "heavy duty" cutting discs. It dissolved almost instantly. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/HPIM0806.jpg I switched to a fiber glass reinforced cutting disc and it lasted the entire project. The first hole is cut out. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/HPIM0807.jpg Then the second. Took about 10 - 15 minutes tops. ![]() Ouch.... look at those jagged edges! http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/HPIM0809.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/HPIM0810.jpg Little bit of grinding... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/HPIM0811.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/HPIM0812.jpg Some sanding... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/HPIM0813.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/HPIM0814.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/HPIM0815.jpg I didn't have any sand paper, so a Dremel attachment had to make do. After that I wired my fans. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/HPIM0817.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/HPIM0818.jpg The rear (single 80mm) has a 3-pin connector, and the two side 80mm's have a 4-pin molex. The reason the wire is so long is because I need room when I take the case apart. It's one of those old 3-panel-in-1 designs. Later in the day I got the rear cut out. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/HPIM0820.jpg Very interesting looking due to the design of the case, but it works. ![]() ![]() http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/HPIM0822.jpg And here is my two side 80's ![]() That's all I got for now. I'm just waiting for my parts to get here, should be here (hopefully) tomorrow, Friday by the latest. Last edited by nitestick; 05-03-2007 at 03:53 AM. |

| i changed a couple of the links to images for you. keep the log going . if you're not going to paint be sure to clean up that side panel with some methylated spirits. otherwise be sure to do a good sanding job and clean up all the stuff that comes off.
