Default Major Upgrade question...

I want to do some major upgrading for my old HP Pavilion 9600 Desktop...but I don't know if my motherboard can handle a Pentium 4 that I want to install.
Current specs on my 9600:
Pentium 3 733MHz(I want to upgrade to a Pentium 4)
256MB RAM(I'm going to upgrade to 512MB
NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 PRO 16MB(I want to upgrade it to a XFX 6800 Ultra 256MB)
...but my friends said I wouldnt have to buy a new motherboard or even just build a new pc...if my motherboard in already an intel based motherboard

No, there isn't any kind of P3 motherboard that can take a P4. They are completely different chips, hence they have different pin outputs.

You will have to buy a new motherboard, too.

Oh yeah P3 mobo are completly diffrent. Since its a P3, built a new one. That howl system sounds nasty. With that video card its obvious you want some sort of gaming computer. If thats what your looking for, your not gonna get it with just upgrading THAT system.
