| Ok. I tried doing a search and something must not be right because I got 0 hits with anything to do with the topic. I'm trying to find out if I'm better off leaving my computer as is, or underclocking my RAM. Right now I have a Q9450 OC'd at 3.2GHz (400MHz x 8) and Corsair Dominator DDR2 PC8500 (1066MHz) memory at 1066MHz (400MHz MCH and 2.66 multiplier) and CL5 timing. Am I better off leaving it like this, with a FSB RAM ration of 3:4, or underclocking my memory to 800MHz to get a 1:1 ratio and perhaps tightening my timing to CL4? I've tried to look this up and get no answers that make me feel comfortable. I obviously am looking for the best compromise of performance and stability/reliability. Please help if you can explain. |

| 1066vs800mhz you'll notice very little difference. If I was you, i would run it at a 1:1 ratio and tighten the timings a bit because i'm pretty sure tighter timings are better than mhz (unless you can keep tight timings and high mhz which you can't really in most cases)

| Oddly.. I just bumped my ram from 1:1, so ram was@ 667mhz, to 800mhz and I lost 700 pts in 3dmark. I also put in the newest nvidia drivers though, so.

| What benchmark should I use? I just did memory benchmarks with Everest and got the following values: @CL5 and 1066MHz Memory Write = 7453 MB/s Memory Read = 8499 MB/s Memory Copy = 8413 MB/s Memory Latency = 71.7ns @CL4 and 800MHz Memory Write = 6531 MB/s Memory Read = 7453 MB/s Memory Copy = 8158 MB/s Memory Latency = 84.7ns This makes it look like I should use the CL5 at 1066MHz. Is there another benchmark I should download and use to show system peformance and difference between 1:1 and 3:4 ratios? Last edited by mikeynavy1976; 08-04-2008 at 08:55 PM. |
