Dl'ed Drivers --> Lowers f.p.s. by half?!?!

Hey guys. I have a wee bit of a problem here. I just downloaded the latest chipset drivers for my A8n-SLI Premium; it was version 665. Furthermore, I uninstalled my Geforce 7800 GT drivers and installed the latest ones from nvidia's site; version 81.98. They are dual 7800 GT, btw. Here's what's wierd: when I run a test performance on FEAR through their option menu I now recieve 40 fps average, but whereas before installing the drivers I recieved 81 fps average! A huge disappointment to say the least and Im really puzzled as to how to 1) explain it and 2) more importantly, fix it so that I can get the 81 fps again. Oh, and the dual video card option is enabled. Any help?
