Default Clan Server Case Mod...

As you all know my case mod plans never get done. Well This time is different. I took drive and decided to take the Duke Nukem case that never happened and turn it into the case for my clan server "Free Fallers".

Here is the case I am using:

Since it is going to be running 24/7 it needs to have some sort of cooling right?
I have decided to add two 120mm Fans making some air flow.

<-<-<-(Exhuast)<-<-<-(Intake)<-<-<-

First 120mm Hole is cut in front bezel with 121mm hole saw and I put some bondo on there to cover up previous mistakes:

(I left one hole for power button)

Since I did not have a sander today I drew a stencil for the side window:

I then took some masking tape and taped it to the side panel:

(Used WAY to much Masking tape)

I then used my dremel tool and a couple 1.5" cut of wheels to cut out the stencil:

Tomorrow I will file the cut out and sand both the side panel and the bezel. Once I get my other computer back I will remove the parts from inside this chassy and add the holes for the 2 fans. red acrylic glass will be add to the FF cutout from mnpctech.com as well as 2 red cold cathodes from xoxide.com

Didn't get much done today. Was moving house. I did manage to get the side panel sanded. I sanded it down and layed 2 coats of Krylon primer and 1 coat of krylon glossy red on both sides of panel. Tomorrow morning I will do another coat of glossy red on both sides lay the tape and paint black. (going for a black on the outside with red stripes on the side panel only. Res of case will be black).

hey that's looking pretty good, just one question though. Wouldn't it have been better to cut the F's out first then paint? Iuno, never done any case mods myself.

I painted it a long time ago. I sanded that paint job down and started repainting today. The same basic design is going back on it though. keeping it simple for my first ever mod. Will finish the side except for clear coat tomorrow. The stripes will only be on the side panel. The inside of the case will be red and the outside will be black. The outside of the side panel is black with red stripes as the inside is just red. I painted the silver case inside and out black but will re primer the inside and paint it all red. then the 2 130mm red fans I think will be a nice touch. along with the red acrylic window and 2 red cold cathodes to make it glow.

Bondo it is. I was going to use the fiber glass filler Bill Owen uses but it is pretty expensive. Small can of Bondo is only about $7 at Wal-Mart.

Next step was paint. I filed the cuts and sanded it down with some 60 grit paper then some 120 grit paper. Most people recommend using a "Mouse" sander by Black and Decker but I find a normal palm sander works just as good.

Couple coats of primer:

And then the finished Job.

I had a nice even coat of red underneath and the inside of the panel is red as well.

Ordered a couple parts for the front bezel before I can paint that. Should be done by the end of the week if my 5.25" bay covers come in.

Acrylic. Haven't decided if I want it clear or tinted red though. Have two red cold cathodes on the way. I will be getting the acrylic from NMPCTech.
