Your best bet would be to backup the data and reformat it as FAT32 ... no big deal, just copy the data over and use Gparted to do that.

Then it will work fine in Windows and in Linux

Another best bet for you would be to upgrade to 6.10. You don't need to download the new CD and reinstall to do that, by the way.
