DNS resolves IP address to names. Like you type
www.google.com and it knows where that is 64.233.161.99
If DNS isn't enabled on your computer you will have trouble getting on the internet. Right click on My Network Places and then select properties, then right click your internet connection and select properties. In that box you should find Internet Protocol TCP/IP. double click this to open and be sure that the buttons for automatically obtain IP address and the button for automatically obtain DNS info are checked. click apply and ok.
