^^ Agreed, try Fedora core. it is the newest opensource release by Redhat: http://fedora.redhat.com/.

if you have no OS and want an OS you can get ubuntu and Kubuntu disks shiped to you for free:

Ubuntu: https://shipit.ubuntu.com/
Kubuntu (*buntu with KDE): https://shipit.kubuntu.org/
Edubuntu (education Version): https://shipit.edubuntu.org/

and of course Xubuntu (Xfce desktop Environment), which doesn't have have Shipit as yet but I'm sure will become availible soon
