It's all about personal preferance, everyone has different opinions.

Personally I use CentOS 4.X because I have always used RedHat and CentOS is the exact same thing as RedHat Enterprise Linux. Some of the most popular are Ubuntu, SuSe, Mandrake, and FreeBSD (mostly used for webservers). You're best bet is to first try some Live CDs that way you can make sure you even want to use Linux. If you do, then start trying out different distros and decide what you like best and stick with it.

Are you sure the "mac OS bar" at the bottom still wasn't windows? Stardock has an application called ObjectDock for Windows that does the same thing. Also, it isn't the best idea to base your decision on a cool looking bar, but that's my opinion.

BTW, it's LINUX not LUNIX!!
