Default Windows Media Stream Disabled...

I have a feeling that I have a weird virus or spyware that is causing this. When attempting to view a piece of media on the internet that uses window's media player stream it gives an error that reads like this:

"Windows Media Player failed to play the selected file. If it is located on the internet, then connect to the internet. If it is located on a removeable disk, then insert the disk."

How can I not be connected to the internet if I am trying to view it from a webpage? Sounds like the work of some dirty virus/spyware....

I have shut off pop-up blocking tools and my virus protection and none of that has caused the issue.

Anyone got any ideas?

It might be linked to the fact that I cannot download that "Windows Update" program off of microsoft.com. It gives some weird error saying some strange program is attempting to run on my comp....

Not too sure what all this is as I have never experienced anything like it
