This is still true However, there are certain companies who offer LCD monitors with CRT quality.

ViewSonic is a good quality monitor -- your best bet for bang-for-buck performance. However, they don't offer a very impressive life-span.

Your best bet for quality would be LaCie. There monitors are pretty much second to none. They also offer calibrators for their monitors, so you always get true performance.
