Either is a good approach, it is simply a case of whether you want to buy another hard drive and whether there is enough space on your existing one to accomodate for two operating systems.
My personal preference woud be to to buy the second drive, just so that if one dies at least you only loose one OS. However clearly this is not practicle with a laptop for example.
