For example, with the XBox 360, you can buy the standard system, $300 or the Premium system, or whatever they call it for $400. With the Premium system, they toss in a wirelss controller, a headset, a higher quality video cable, S-Video I think, the hard drive is included if im correct, and its got a stylish metallic look..... Anyway assuming you buy that system, and you get all that stuff there are a few things left which you dont have. You don't have the high end HD Component Video Cable $40, your going to need 3 more wireless controllers $150. OH and to go with all 4 of those controllers your going to need the Nifty Play and Charge Kits, $80. Then your going to need the wireless adapter a whopping $99. You say your going to want to watch DVDs? That will cost you $30. Maybe you want a couple of memory card $80. And your friends are going to want headsets, so 3 more $60. So lets total all this up

Premium System: $400 (1 Headset, 1 Wireless Controller, Hard-Drive, S-Video Cable, and a Premium Look.....)

HD-Component Video Cable $40
3 Wireless Controls $150
4 Play n Charge Kits $80
Wireless Adapter $99
DVD Controller $30
2 Memory Cards $80
3 Headsets $60

Grand Total; $939.00

Thats nearly $1000 after tax for a machine only to be used for gaming, geeze thats a lot of money. And thats not including any of the games, not to mention the fact that they are probably going to be useless within 3 years. This was just to show you that the systems aren't as cheap as you think, especially if your planning on buying it as soon as its released, and you decide not to wait.

and thats how consoles make money.......

unlike a PC, you buy all them over time (usually) so it doesnt seem as big of a dent in your wallet.
