You actualy don't have to reinstall you can but doing a repair from OS disc is easier.


On the stand point of money there is. MS makes more money, if people could just take a HD from an old computer or a copied HD and put it in a new computer, MS would lose money because, the way they want it is 1 OS should per Mobo or computer. So windows detects changes in hardware that makes you reregister.
